About his work

The stories that Logan T. Sibrel tells are universal. One picture is all the artist and musician needs in order to tell us a whole story — no matter how small it may be. “I like making the small drawings because of their size relation to snapshot photography,” says Sibrel. Here, his drawing and painting style is as gentle as is his gaze. “I examine the fragmented nature of identity through rendering and erasure, inclusion and omission,” is how the artist describes his creative process. Sibrel shows us moments of bliss, desperation and obsession. And every time, we wish the story could continue...

About the artist

Logan T. Sibrel’s works emit one thing particular: intimacy. Yet, we don’t perceive ourselves as voyeurs, for no stranger would be permitted to approach somebody this closely. In other words, the yearnings, disappointments and emotions of the portraits seem to concern us directly. They are the alter egos of the 32-year old artist; they are friends, lovers, characters taken from books or made up entirely in his imagination. “I’m interested in mixing up this 'recipe' so that my relation to the subject is never totally clear, but that some degree of closeness is evident,” is how he puts it himself. Sibrel studied painting at the Indiana University and at Parsons School of Design in New York. His work is exhibited internationally, at MOM Art Space in Hamburg, Underdonk in Brooklyn or Hume Gallery in Chicago.
