About the edition

It has an impressive tradition and yet remains a hidden gem to this day: poster art from Cuba. Since the time of the Castro Revolution, the country has been using them to promote its domestic culture, music, cinema and visual arts.

The film posters, mostly produced by hand in an edition of 50, maximum 100 using the screen printing process, are characterized by their formal beauty, a special use of typography and a strong visual impact. Artist and illustrator Giselle Monzón Calero, who was born in Havana in 1979 has been interested in art and illustration since childhood and is part of this tradition.

Inspired by Tom Ford's 2016 film drama "Nocturnal Animals", she created a work in which fox and insect merge into a hybrid. Gentle and playful, simultaneously dark and dangerous, effectively accentuated by a single tear - Monzón Calero's hybrid creature beautifully tells Ford's story of tension and heartbreak in this 3-color screenprint. The work was executed by Tony Clough (Seriopress), one of the best screen printers on the US West Coast.
