About the Edition Carlos Cruz-Diez celebrated color and was always looking for new discoveries. In 1963, he came across the "induction chromatique à double fréquence" mentioned in the title of the current edition almost by accident: when blue and black patterns were printed, an additional color appeared at sight - a pale yellow. Since it is the complementary color of blue, Cruz-Diez was sure that he was dealing with an induction. And he as an artist was not the creator of this extra hue - the yellow is created naturally by the afterimage effect, is constructed in the brain of those who look at the work. About the artist „I am 94. I am a man of my time, I am not of the past.“ Says Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923-2019), a pioneer of kinetic art based on flexibility or movement, said that even in old age - and his work bears witness to it. Even at art school, Cruz-Diez, who would go on to become one of the most prominent Latin American artists of recent modernism, wondered why everyone worked with the same materials. He himself wanted to get away from traditional painting. While from his point of view that represents "a memory", he hoped to show "the present" in his works. Works by Cruz-Diez are now in important museum collections around the world, such as the MoMA in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Center Pompidou in Paris, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Latest Exhibitions (Selection) The Würth Collection is currently showing works by Carlos Cruz-Diez in the exhibition “(E)motion. Op Art, Kinetic Art and Light Art” at the Art Forum Würth in Capena, Lazio (until October 8th). The Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid dedicated the solo exhibition “The Weight of Form. The Graphic Design of Carlos Cruz-Diez”. In 1965 he participated alongside artists such as Enrico Castellani, Ellsworth Kelly and Gego in the legendary show "The Responsive Eye" at the MoMA in New York - this is considered the first blockbuster museum exhibition ever.
