About the edition

At 96 meters, the world's tallest mural adorns the concrete facade of a high-rise building in Calgary and can be seen from the plane approaching the Canadian city. Created as part of the BUMP urban art festival, DAIM, whose real name is Mirko Reisser, worked on it with a team of three assistants – and it took him over four weeks and over 500 spray cans. This gigantic painting serves as the template for the hand-finished skateboard decks entitled "DAIM – straight up," each with an individually sprayed background in black or gold. The artist DAIM continually varies this writer's name. At times, the deconstruction and reconstruction goes so far that, as here, it seems to dissolve into the abstract. And yet the artist remains true to his lettering principle: "I paint what defines me; my works are like self-portraits." Anyone who deciphers his impressive letter architecture also learns something about the artist himself.

About the artist

Mirko Reisser developed his own unique style in the early 1990s, which soon gained international recognition. Famous for his use of light and shadow effects, his works engage our senses and convey a strong sense of three-dimensionality. With his large-scale works, DAIM gained recognition in museum contexts as well as in the American graffiti and writing scene. The artist is represented in collections such as Arsenale Novissimo in Venice, MuCEM in Marseille, ArtFonds21 Frankfurt am Main, and Reinking in Hamburg.
