About the artist and the fundraising edition London-based Marie Smith artistic practice synergizes photography and text. Her "Lone Tree in East Sussex," which opposes the forces of nature and all that rattles it, derives from a series of black-and-white photographs which document her ongoing struggle against depression and anxiety. Smith, who studied at the University Of Chichester and Birkbeck College at the University of London, draws on her art to raise her voice on behalf of herself and other Women of Color, drawing attention to their particular affectedness in relation to mental health.
