About the Edition

Again and again, the sunset serves as an effective backdrop in Jack Pierson's intimate portraits. For the limited photo edition from 2014, the American artist has also come up with something very special: not only that the figure, sky and ocean are slightly blurred, which underlines the state of being enraptured again ‒ there are also mini glass beads (glassflock) which are applied to the surface and sparkle, much like water glittering in the sun. Due to the almost unreal rush of yellow, orange and blue, the perfectly composed picture almost tilts into abstraction. It reaches us on a mental and emotional level with seductive force!

About the artist

Jack Pierson works in different media: sculpture, photography, video and drawing. Pierson became internationally famous in 1991 with his "Word Pieces": Here he combined old letters of different sizes and materials, formerly advertising lettering or lettering on buildings, into new words or sentences such as "The world is yours" or "It just is". His short statements unfold an effect that is both political and poetic. He also attracted attention with his publication Self-Portrait (2003), for which he photographed handsome men of different ages, but not himself. While there is a strong sense of irony in this, feelings also play an important role in Pierson's work . He studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston and was part of the Boston School around Nan Goldin and Philip-Lorca diCorcia. Today the artist lives in New York City and Southern California. His works are represented in museum collections worldwide, in New York alone they are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Guggenheim Museum.
