About the artist and The Gift 432
Nina Backman, born in Finland and living in Berlin, is an artist and curator whose performances, projects, and installations often integrate elements of ecological intervention — such as The Silence Project, which explores silence, communication, and human experience. In her initiative A Million Trees to Finland, she connects art, community, and environmental protection. Through contemplative social rituals and concrete ecological actions, she invites audiences to pause, listen, and connect with others as well as with nature.
The Gift 432 is Nina Backman’s latest project, exploring the resonance of 432 Hz — a frequency long believed to be in harmony with the vibrations of the universe. It addresses not only sound, but also harmony, balance, rhythm, and the interconnectedness of all living beings. The series is inspired by an ancient Finnish tradition: the uhripuu or “sacrifice tree,” in which a tree was planted near a person’s home to protect its inhabitants.
As part of The Green Train 432, Backman plants larger trees as artworks at permanent locations, each accompanied by a limited certificate. These trees grow, change, and take root in their place, becoming both sculpture and sanctuary — contemporary art that is alive, communal, and in constant transformation.
